Happy 3rd birthday my little tanabata boy! Happy birthday Noah!!! : )

Happy birthday Noah! We love you so *so* very much! Since today is your birthday, I thought I'd share some of my favorite pictures of you! This is you and it was taken at the PIC hotel in Saipan! It was lunch time! We had spent the whole morning swimming and riding those intertubes around the lazy river and we were starving! In this picture you had just finished your lunch! : )

You goofing around way back, when B was in yochien. You were waiting for your brother to get home from school. You always kept a lookout for the yellow school bus! Funny....come this year *you* will be riding that same school bus when you start yochien! This time around it will be mommy waiting for you to come home! : )

That night daddy and I had spicy shrimp plates with rice and stuff meanwhile you and Branden had Jack in the box! LOL. Much too spicy shrimp for you guys! But you always adapted no matter where we were or what we were eating. You are very laid back that way! Thank you! : )

Again, in a few short month's, you will *really* be wearing this hat, this coming winter! It'll be your turn at kindergarten next! I can't believe you got so big, so fast! Age 3, and yet you are still always going to be my little baby, no matter what, I just can't help it! A fellow mama will know exactly how I feel and what I mean, I think! : )

You silly boy! Wearing your Halloween headband thing with little jack-o lantern bobbly things! We were at Disneyland for your brother's birthday at the end of October and the whole park of Disneyland was decorated for Halloween! You and your brother wore these and they glowed and you guys giggled and thought they were funny! We thought so too! Your really are always good and ready for a laugh, any time! : )

And trying on swim suits pretending to be super heroes, ha ha ha! My, my, my, how you've grown! I don't have too much to say. But hopefully this google blog thing will exist when you're grown and you can read, how much I love you! How proud I have always been of you. How I still think and have always thought the absolute world of you (same goes for your brother) And you can see all these pictures and marvel just how you got so big, so fast! You are so loved Noah! We love you more then I could ever say or put into words! Happy 3rd birthday Noah! : ) (I will add new pictures from his actual birthday in this post probably tomorrow)

Sunday splashing in the pool with friends and a BBQ! : )

We somehow missed the Saturday delivery of this (we were at the bakery in the AM on Saturday when the mailman brought it originally) so it was redelivered to us Sunday morning. It was sent to Noah from Grandma. We opened it on Sunday and Noah hasn't seen it yet.

To Noah and an Ultraman book with buttons that make the cool Ultraman noises and ichiman yen. She also sent in the other envelop that says...from grandma, it is for Branden.

I flipped the letter over and it says to Branden on this side. Meaning the envelop on the left. She wrote Branden a great little note/paragraph, "how is school, how is swimming, have you been playing and making friends?" Just that sorta stuff is what she asked Branden. The book, I took it upon myself to wrap up with wrapping paper for Noah as well, that way he can unwrap it come Monday! : )

Anyways, after a leisurely pancake and bacon breakfast Sunday morning. The doorbell rang and it was Branden's friends, they were ready to play! So, he went into the shed and got out his bike and helmet and went riding. From 10am, to noon, he rode his bike, still checking in off and on in bits. Meanwhile around 11am, Noboru broke out the pool and got out the electric pump and quickly filled up the pool. Noah went and splashed around while Noboru and I looked on. And then like I said at noon the kids all went back to their houses at noon for lunch. In our neighborhood at least, it seems every kid takes a 1 hour lunch break at their homes. So, Branden was home and we all had lunch. At 1pm, sure enough the kids started filtering their way back over and that's when he invited Saya-chan to come over and splash around for the day. She went home, asked her mom and of course she said yes. And she came back with her little swim suit. yes that is the swim suit from the same swimming club Branden goes too. She also goes to private swimming school like Branden does and she's actually a #8, so she's 1 # ahead of our Branden. Hmm, a good swimmer, I think I dig this girl, ha ha ha! Like I said, her name is Saya-chan. She's a good little girl, she is not shy! She is very out going! She went to a private yochien when she was in yochien, same as Branden. She actually went to the rival yochien from Branden's, lol. So she comes from a good family. She takes extra curriculars like swimming and she also goes to English conversation school as well. We noticed way back in April, she would tell Branden in the mornings, "let's walk together Branden kun!" She likes Branden a lot and he really likes her. Their personalities match very well, for whatever reason. So, yeah she is his first girl buddy. First girl friend, not girlfriend like lovey dovey. But like how it was on the movie, My Girl, you know how they were just best friends but a boy and a girl. Anyway, B's best guy friend is still Genki but she is his best girl that's his friend, is what I mean. They play every single day together. Literally every single day!

Then Kouiki came and we asked him to run home and bring his swim shorts and he hopped on his bike and came back in a few minutes ready for splashing! : ) These 4 kids played out in the backyard until the evening. Saya-chan stayed until 4pm. And we did invite her to our BBQ, but her dad is off work today and they had plans to go to restaurant, so she couldn't. Kouiki was invited as well and his mother said yes he could join us for the BBQ! Kouiki is starting to be the one little boy B has been playing with everyday too. Once Genki gets to play again, we will all be happy! But lately, even if they are riding bikes, it is just Branden, Saya-chan and Kouiki-kun. Sometimes others join them, like Keita or the boy next door, but it's always these 3 kids in the pic that are the main constants, who always play together. I think we as parents worried, would our kids find new friends at ichinensei? And the answer was, yes they did. They found each other and now all of us can go ahh and feel happy! : ) Meanwhile Noah always just joins them no matter what. He's not shy at all either. I think because he's used to playing with the big kids, he will be fine at yochien. I'm not so worried about him.

Potatoes were done, sweet potatoes and regular potatoes. Saya-chan said she wanted to try the sweet potato, by all means we said. We just didn't wanna spoil her appetite and want her parents upset. She said it was okay and we said here ya go! The kids munched the sweet potatoes all through the yard. : ) Kouiki also takes swimming classes but he goes to the other swim club, not the same one as B and Saya go to. But it's all good. : )

Oh yes, we broke out the water guns, we broke them all out except for Noah's, it's been wrapped already. But these kids squirted each other and had a war all afternoon and evening long! Saya-chan had to leave because it was her time to go home and enjoy her time with her family. Meanwhile Kouiki's mom came over, brought us a watermelon and a bottle of apple juice. And then she left. She just wanted to say thanks about inviting her son. : ) I told her...her son is a very good boy. And he really is, he has impeccable manners, every time he enters our home he says, "ojamashimasu", ha ha ha, he's so cute! Branden always says that when entering someones home too though. : ) We now put the meat on the grill and we ate outside on the terrace. It was so nice. By now we started to get a slight wind, a nice cool breeze and it was nice. Around 5:15 pm Kouiko went home stuffed but happy. : ) Ahh it was a good day! Great BBQ as well. And good friends! Life's simple but it's good! : )

We cleaned up the outside, brought everything inside. Loaded the dishwasher and we were done! Noboru showered with B and I showered with Noah. We all got our room wear stuff on. And then I think, I said....ice-cream. And then everyone said, yeah! Next thing you know we were driving down the street to Mini Stop and bought some ice creams. Branden chose the tiramisu one. Noah went with the old favorite vanilla cone, I went with the chocolate sundae and Noboru had the mango ice cream thing. We lazed around the TV for the rest of the night. : ) I hope everyone else enjoyed their weekends as well! : )

A visit from uncle Jun!!! : )

Saturday was just a day of relaxing. House was clean and Branden was off riding his bike with all his little fellow ichinensei/first grader friends. Meanwhile Noboru and Noah and I, kicked back in the house watching TV and just enjoying our nice quiet weekend. Then the phone rang, Noboru answered it and it was his brother. He said his wife is away today and he'd like to come visit with his daughter, would that be okay? Absolutely and totally, we said! : ) So, he said to give him 20 minutes and he'd be right over! Cool! He came and we went out in the backyard! He lives in a mansion/owned apartment in Narita so doesn't have a yard, which is okay, but he does likes to come to our place to enjoy. And we love having them. : ) He just sat at the edge of the yard and looked at the endless rice fields and went....."kirei!!!!!" Meaning beautiful! He said the yard was beautiful and had changed a lot and he said the view was also breath taking. This is a pic of uncle Jun and my niece Mia! : ) Oh yeah and an accidental pic of Keita, my sons friend. He's a good new friend of B's.

And here's more friends. The one right behind Noboru is Kouiki (sp?) but everyone pronounces his name a bit more like, "Corky", so I pronounce it that way, but I don't stress the R so much. He is in Branden's class and sits right next to Branden and lives in the same community as us. Keita lives in the same community as us too. Which is why all these little first graders always get together every day. Ha ha ha. And obviously Branden is in the floppy hat. : ) Noboru put the sprinkler on for the boys. And he also squirted the kids with the sprinkler as well. Poor, poor drenched kids! Ha ha ha.

Branden is very good with little kids, he actually very kind to all little kids, he's just a really good big brother type! He was so kind to Mia-chan, he walked her around the yard, they held hands. She warmed right up to him! Uncle Jun kept saying, "what a good boy Branden is" He's a good brother he said. I told him thank you, and yeah B is a good kiddo. : )

Branden gently held her in the seat, Jun was so thrilled he had to take a picture of the moment! Ha ha ha. : )

Mia-chan turned 1 years old in February! She's an expert at walking and running already. After a while she was trying to run after the boys in the yard. She also went up the play yard with help of uncle Jun and Branden. She steered the playground with the steering wheel. And she actually slid down the big slide, but uncle Jun caught her towards the end. A very brave girl, I think! : ) She cried when she first came, but just a bit, which it's normal, most kids Mia's age cry when they first see new people or people they hadn't seen for a while. But she quickly got over that and had a blast for the hour they were here! : ) Also her mom was having a nice and probably much needed break from mommyhood. She and her friends went to Tokyo to do some girl stuff! I told Jun, it's good for her to get away like that to get that little break and feel refreshed like that. She deserves it, I told him! Satoe-chan (his wife and my sister in law) is so awesome and nice! : )

Noah chan loved Mia-chan, he thought she was just the bees knees! I think, he liked being bigger then someone for a change, instead of always being the youngest around here! : ) If the other boys weren't swinging in the seats probably Noah could have gotten in there and I could have taken a pic with the 3 cousins. But ah well, next time hopefully! : ) The kiddo on the right of Mia-chan is "boy next door" ha ha ha and Keita-kun was on the left of B swinging. It was kid city back there, as always! Jun told me, Mia hasn't had the chance to play with other kids much yet. I said...'that's very understandable, babies that young really don't get a chance to interact much" Branden at that age was the same way. But I told him, bring her around here more, I've always got tons of kids at our house, she'll be part of the gang in no time! Ha ha ha. And she was today! : ) They left, it was time for uncle Jun to be back home, and he left. Mia-chan honestly cried and didn't want to leave! She seriously didn't want to leave. : ( I didn't want her to leave either! I wish they'd just leave her with me for a few days! Ha ha ha. She's so beautiful and so sweet. It would be sorta nice to have a little girl hang around the house more! : ) I absolutely adore my niece to the millionth degree! I adore her to bits! : ) Oh yeah uncle Jun also gave 5000 yen to Noah for his birthday. It wasn't expected or anything at all, we thanked him immensely for that! Yup, uncle Jun rocks! : ) I think the world of my brother in law, I really do! : )

Tonight's dinner was chicken and cheese enchiladas. I grated a whole bunch of cheese, with my Ikea grater and it's holder. The red and black holders. I also boiled 2 chicken breasts until thoroughly cooked. And then I took the skins off, and took off any funky yucky bits and rinsed the chicken quite well and then I shredded it. After that I added spices to the chicken, to flavor the chicken.

After skillet frying the corn tortillas and blotting any excess oil off those. I started rolling them up! : )

I don't want to say raw, because they most certainly aren't raw, the chicken is done and cooked. But I'll just say, before they hit the oven! Ha ha ha. I made 11 enchiladas. They were stuffed and excellent size. Just chicken and cheese in each of them. : ) I then covered with tin foil tightly and then I whacked them in my oven on 350 F for 30 minutes. Except last 5 minutes I covered with the extra cheese and covered back with the tin foil. : )

What my meal looked like this Saturday night! I like onions on mine and can't add them while cooking because my husband hates onions so much. Ha ha ha. But I don't mind adding them like this at all. Dinner was so good! And yes, I did fix a little plate and had Branden walk it over to my friend, who wanted to try them! : ) I hope everyone had a nice Saturday as well, wherever you all may be! : )

Happy fourth of July! And bits like, the mother's lunch thing and also let's dish about, a *real* snake in the grass!!! : )

Tuesday, after I got my housework finished for the day! I am talking floor mopping all downstairs including the genkan. Whole floor vacuuming upstairs, both toilets and the shower room and also the laundry room. Dusting all the mini blinds and 2 loads of laundry, okay that was way past my quota for the day, lol! So anyway I went into the each of the boys bedrooms upstairs and got out each of their jinbei stash that I stock up on and save throughout the year or whenever. And now that the weather has finally really heated up, I felt it time to break them all out. Go through them one by one (these are the ones they can wear this year and for the years ahead, the younger ones I don't count) Hmm not too bad of an assortment I guess/hope, lol. I took off a lot of the new tags and I washed them all on the gentle cycle and then hung them outside to dry on Tuesday. They dried in no time flat and are now in each of the boys rooms all fresh and ready to be worn. So, now the boys are indeed jinbei ready this season, phew. : ) And why did I go through this today? Because we got a postcard in the mail this morning inviting us to go back to our yochien and enjoy the summer festival there! And also there are a few other festivals coming so it was definitely time to get them out, wash them all properly before wearing and such! Anyway glad that's all done. : )

We even have this brand new white one with the blue whales on it too. Yup, it's jinbei city here at our house every summer. Ha ha ha. And why would a mom with only 2 kids, have a few extras. Hmm. I guess, I just think I have this great love for the jinbei and really love the summer festivals a lot here in Japan. I have always found them to be quite beautiful, cool and very breezy for the kids to wear in the summer.

This is the 100cm one that Noah will be wearing this coming summer! It's a really gorgeous aloha inspired jinbei. : ) And you betcha this is a boys jinbei alrighty! It's

Remember Branden's was a bit big last year? It's perfect size for him this year, so it's washed, clean and dried. All I got to do, is go and get the boys some new Japanese type flip flops (sorry forget the proper name for them and am in a bit of a rush at the moment but you guys kwim hopefully ) that go with this type of outfit and I'll be done. Phew. : )

Tuesday night's dinner! Remember that sauce that Noboru asked me to use for his wings the other week? Well, I surely tried it, but I tried it on lean chicken breasts for the kids and I and for dark thigh meat for Noboru.

Rolled the chicken in some flour with salt and pepper, hmm didn't take but a minute. I appreciated the easiness of this.

Skillet fried, again fairly easy, just set my timer, for 8-10 minutes, a low medium temp on each side. Then when the timer went off, I came back and flipped it. Hmm. I think I like this meal, ha ha ha.

After it was nicely cooked and crispy on the outside, I rolled the chicken in a bowl with the sauce got it all good and covered in the sauce. And that was it. Ahhh, I like meals like this that are still quick easy and still good. I just don't have an hour to spend in the kitchen in the evenings. By the time the evening rolls around, I'm physically tired from all my day to day stuff. And I'd frankly like to take a load off. So, easy meals are right up my alley. : ) Especially since we usually have homework and whatnot to do. And baths and a bit of free time as well. So yeah, easy peasy meals totally appreciated. Ha ha ha. : )

This was all the white meat, all the dark meat I already marinated and just served up to the hubby on his own plate.

Really easy. Again sorry folks, no bells or whistles with our food.Ha ha ha. Just simple basic dinners that an average typical family can enjoy. But still yummy though! : ) We all enjoyed dinner. After bath time, we all sat and enjoyed TV and then the boys went to sleep. I laid on the couch and enjoyed TV. Tuesday was a good day and I am really glad I tried that sauce for the chicken again, because I think that will become a once a month meal at our house from now on! : )

Is it potato harvesting season? Or how does that go? Anybody know? The reason I ask is because 2 different neighbors brought me potatoes this week! First person who brought me potatoes was my good friend Rumi-san! It was the evening perhaps about 4pm? And the door bell rang and it was my friend. She had this bag and handed it to me, she stayed just 30 seconds. She has 3 children and is a busy mommy herself. She just wanted to be sweet/kind and she said, these are for you. And she left, I was surprised and thanked her and she left! : ) Her kindness is really awesome!

I am not sure if one of her daughters went on a field trip and these came from that? The dirt made me know they clearly came from someplace farm-y. ha ha ha. They were firm and fresh! I love getting fresh stuff like this! I rinsed them all off.

Then next thing you know, that same night. Around 8pm maybe. the doorbell rang. I went and answered it.... it was the man from across the street. His wife has been in Kyushu. I think either her family has taken ill or what. But she's been gone for about 2 month's now (not not a divorce it just has to do with her family is all). Sad because she is such a nice friendly woman. Anyways he said here! (in Japanese of course) these are for you and your family, my wife's family something about a potato farm. I only got/understood bits from it. But I could understand the main parts. Perhaps her family owns a potato farm? I don't know, lol. Anyway he handed them to me and I thanked him, he said, jaga something else. And I said, hai hai! And I said, I loved potatoes. (in Japanese) and then he said to me in English "potato" Ha ha ha! And I said, yes you are *right*! And he got all happy and waved and left! How cute! I really do have the kindest and coolest neighbors ever!

These ones are like sumo sized potatoes! They actually dwarfed my hand size, see in the pic? These are gonna be the best for baking ever! : )

And the thickness? These are monster sized potatoes. Anyway, thanks to 2 of the kindest neighbors in the universe, I now don't have to buy potatoes for the next 2 weeks, at least! Ha ha ha. I am also thinking of making a gratin quite soon because of them!

Wednesday, was that yochien get together and day we all received our children's yearbooks. We all met at a local restaurant. Steak, hamburg and pasta type privately owned place. We were to meet up at 11:30 am. I was very excited to see them all today! I really like these ladies, respect them all so much and consider them friends! Some I see every Wednesday at swim club but many I have not seen since March or whenever when Branden graduated school, so I was really excited to meet up with them! Noboru kept Noah at home with him and I enjoyed some much needed alone girl time with my girlfriends! : ) I parked my car, saw my 3 girlfriends in the parking lot right away! After we "hisashiburi-ed" one another, me and Shion-kun's mom were like two Japanese comedians! She tried to give me some change back from the karaoke we all went to back at the graduation. I told her..."keep it" not to worry. she said "no" here. So she stuck it in my bag and I went and stuck it in her bag, we went at it all outside and all the way into the restaurant. Finally 15 minutes later I gave up and accepted it. But everyone had a laugh about us and the 1000 yen and some odd yen. It was a hoot! Saw my dear friend Rieko-san there (see her weekly at swim club which is cool) and saw Genki's mom, see her a lot anyways since we live so near and our sons go to the same school. But many of them it was cool to see. Taito-kun's mom who is pregnant with baby #3. She has 2 boys. We all asked her, what are you having, she said another boy! Of course she's happy to be having a healthy child to begin with. But our closeness means we can joke together. So we said..."another boy???....all boys" Ha ha ha! And we were all laughing! She was laughing too. We are all good friends and can joke like that. And then I told her what someone once told me about having 2 boys (thought she will have 3). So, I told it to Taito's mom. I said..." a house full of boys means, you will truly be the only princess of the castle, ne" and she got the biggest widest smile and she nodded her head at me! Anyway it was cool to all be reunited again all of us! : ) And yes we all had to do that speak in public and get up and share our news thing! Ugh, I really hate this part, I think this part sucks! Ha ha ha. Although I do understand the reasoning for doing it...I just don't like it, is all. Good thing they started the opposite side of the room. One woman's news was...'she now is for sure she is getting old and she stated when she walks she can feel it in her bones and joints" another said she is pregnant! (she is a real sweetie and I was so thrilled hearing that) she only has 1 child and he's 6. And she has been hoping for another child and she is now going to have one...so right on! Everyone had good news. Although one said she lost her job.

: ( Meanwhile I was not as freaked out this time, I got up and said, "ummm I don't really have *much* news, however I recently got my Japanese drivers license" ha ha ha. Sorry couldn't think of what else to say and I rarely or never talk about vacations or anything like that to my friends irl. So, I sincerely had no other news. So many were clapping and smiling and cheering for me! You know they are all so positive and welcoming, I felt really happy! And then I sat down. : ) After that, it lasted past 2pm. I quickly drove to pick up Branden. And then I went home, and at the same time as I was pulling into my driveway, my delivery from FBC was arriving too. What luck! Ha ha ha. : )

I'm going to make some enchiladas and tostadas this coming week. I was asking my friend, if she's ever eaten any Mexican food. She said no. I was telling her, in America doesn't really matter if you are Italian American or Irish or African American, chances are you grew up cruising to Taco Bell, or Chipolte, or a fantastic little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant (these are usually the best) and so she wants to try, so I said why not. So, this week sometime I will whip up something and bring some down for her! : )

And let's not forget the boys French toast sticks! : ) So that was my tiniest FBC order ever! : )

Thursday was pretty uneventful until the snake came! The 4 of us were all in the house, Noboru went outside to smoke a cigarette (blech), and he suddenly came inside and said..."snake, snake, there's a snake outside come see" The boys and I went outside. He was in the middle of the road and he was extremely fast at moving around. He had managed to slither up on our neighbor across the streets house bicycle. He slithered up the bicycle, through the basket. I made the boys stay on our front porch. I didn't get too close either, but I used the zoom on my camera. Blech that snake! Ha ha ha. : )

Look how fast he's going up the bike and up past the basket! These guy was like lightning speed. *shudders*

Look those who think a snake could not reach their yard, think again! These nice neighbors have their yard elevated, about 4 feet off the ground but it clearly did not matter to this snake at all! When there's a will, there's a way! As the saying goes! And these are the nice neighbors that brought me the potatoes, and his wife is away!

Okay now am I kidding or what? I am kidding you not! This snake just slithered all the way up to this high yard! And I mean for real!!! Talk about being a real *SNAKE IN THE GRASS* This is the real original snake in the grass, right here! Gee, I hope my neighbor didn't go walking outside with flip flops on! Ha ha ha! And yes, when the nice man (who brought us our potatoes) got home, I had the hubby go and tell him that we did see a snake in his yard today. : ) Boy did he appreciate that! Because they do have a weenie dog to look out for! Ha ha ha! : )

TV talk, anybody watching anything good on TV lately? Doesn't matter if it's Japanese or Sky perfect, if you'd like to share any good TV stuff you're digging at the moment, please share away! : ) As for me, I saw 2 movies on satellite the other day. I saw the TV movie version of...Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. I think this was originally a mini series? Obviously originally a book, lol, but I mean when it was aired on TV. However for us in Japan, it just showed one right after the other. It was long, but it was brilliant! I loved every minute of this movie! From the marvelous Dashwood ladies (especially Marianne), to that Willoughby (disliked him immensely, sorry), to the lovely colonel Brandon. (*heart flutters*, lol ) and everyone else, I just loved the movie, so much that it's shown on TV twice and though it's like 4 hours or longer. I have actualy caught it twice! I really enjoy the story lines and the characters so much! Perhaps I should pick up the book, who knows! : ) On a total opposite end of the spectrum, I also caught the movie, "Party Monster" with Macaulay Culkin, Seth Green, Chloe Sevigny and Wilmer Valderrama among others. But it was a really good movie, very eye opening, dark comedy type movie. It was sad in parts and hilarious in others. I'm glad I saw this while B was at school and Noah was napping. Other then that, I am still totally into Ugly Betty and also Desperate Housewives! : ) Have an awesome weekend everyone! : )
